Hot Weather
MPNA FOLLOWS THE GUIDELINES FROM NETBALL VICTORIAS HOT WEATHER GUIDELINES AS APPROVED BY SPORTS MEDICINE AUSTRALIA:
To view Netball Victoria’s suggestions for extreme heat, CLICK HERE. Please bear in mind that these are guidelines and not policies. The competition will utilise the Bureau of Meteorology’s reading for Mornington.
The competition may decide to alter the conditions of matches for safety reasons, including shortening quarters, extending breaks, etc. The management protocols stated will be followed in such situations, as required.
The health and safety of members is a primary concern to Netball Victoria. Every Club, Association and League within Victoria has a responsibility to provide a safe environment.
During the year MPNA may be faced with making a decision to cancel or continue to play matches during hot weather.
Who will be responsible for making the decision?
The Executive Committee / Competitions Supervisor is responsible for making decisions in relation to HOT weather. The on court and supervising umpires will also be consulted when making the decision.
How will the decision be communicated to teams or team management?
MPNA will notify clubs via Netball Connect and the MPNA Facebook Page.
What happens if a match is cancelled?
-
Games cancelled prior to half time will be classed as ABANDONED and each team will receive two points.
-
Games cancelled after halftime will see the current score stand.
CONSIDERATIONS
-
Club officials will check the weather forecast using the BOM with the location of Mornington as this is the nearest location for all of our competitions.
-
All participants, volunteers and officials should stay hydrated before and during hot weather.
-
All participants and families will be notified if changes are planned for upcoming competition, training or event schedules.
-
Notifications will be on MPNA Facebook page & Netball Connect for Saturday and Weeknight competitions. Training will be notified by the utilised communication tool.
-
When the on court temperature ranges from 30-34 degrees we might:
-
Increase the number of drink breaks

Promote first aid treatment of exertional heat illness
-
-
When the on court temperature is greater than 35 degrees we will prioritise cancelling all games within 30 mins of the game commencement.
-
Where play continues we will prioritise the health and safety of all participants.
NOTES
-
Forfeit: If one team elects not to play and concedes four points to the opposition, this team will pay courts fees for both teams
