About MPNA Squad

At MPNA, our Squad program is built on the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and physical well-being. We provide a supportive environment where athletes can grow their netball skills, challenge themselves at the next level, and be part of a vibrant sporting community.

Squad netball offers players a pathway beyond domestic competition, with access to quality coaching, skill development, and competitive opportunities that nurture both individual and team success.

Our season runs from November to August, beginning with pre-season sessions, followed by weekly games, training, and tournaments—culminating in a special end-of-year celebration.

Each year, we aim to select:

  • 2 teams in 11 & Under and 17 & Under

  • 3–4 teams in 13 & Under and 15 & Under

Trials and selection

Selections
Selections take place in the first two weeks of Term 4 each year.

Trials
Trials are conducted in closed sessions, where independent selectors and our squad coaches work together to observe and assess local talent and potential.

Format
Up to three trial sessions are held, with all participants required to attend at least two.

What we look for
When selecting players, we consider a range of attributes, including:

  • Technical skills

  • Positive attitude

  • Willingness to learn

  • Teamwork

  • Future potential

Pre-season program

In November and early December, we run a series of pre-season sessions held off the court and out in the community.

These sessions are designed to build fitness, strengthen team connections, and support player development through fun and engaging activities.

They also provide the foundation for our holiday program, which players are encouraged to complete over the summer break to maintain and further develop their fitness and skills.

Squad camp

One of the highlights of our squad program, Squad Camp gives players the opportunity to spend 24–48 hours with their coaches and teammates, building strong relationships and learning more about each other.

Across the camp, players take part in team-building activities, fitness sessions, and collaborative workshops, working together to set shared goals and expectations for the season ahead.

  • Pre-season sessions

  • Squad camp day activities

  • Coaching

  • Tournament entry costs

We are also offering a MPNA Academy Program for 2026 for the players that reached the third round of trials but didn't make it to Squad. This is by invitation only. Cost TBC.

In addition, all families are asked to support the program by assisting with fundraising BBQs and other activities—because at MPNA, we believe teamwork makes the dream work!

Training

Our main training session is held on Tuesday evening, where players take part in a well-rounded program designed to develop every aspect of being a netballer and a valued member of the MPNA Squad.

Sessions include:

  • Fitness and conditioning

  • Skill development

  • Mental health and wellbeing

  • Nutrition education

  • Fun nights and social activities

  • Pizza nights

  • Buddy sessions across age groups

Match play

MPNA Representative teams participate in 6–8 tournaments each year, primarily in Melbourne’s south-east, providing players with valuable competitive experience.

In addition, the following teams compete in a weekly competition:

  • 13 & 15 & Under: Waverley on Thursdays during Terms 1 & 2, games between 5pm – 9pm

  • 17 & Under: Waverley on Wednesdays during Terms 1 & 2

Our teams also compete in the Netball Victoria Association Championships, offering 15U and 17U players an exciting opportunity for talent identification and potential entry into the Netball Victoria Talent Academy Pathway.
